A political gimmick? A BN gimmick... I wonder why NOW. Nothing short of getting back Indian votes I believe. Suddenly there was a sense of guilt by the powers-that-be. RM120 million for the Indian community, is it enough for four years, hmmmm, divided by four, and if my maths is right each year the Community will get about more or less RM30 million. I don't think that is enough? Allocations for what? Poverty? Education? Estate Workers? Economy? Employment? Everything is still so uncertain....

Govt approves RM120m for Indian community

KUALA LUMPUR: The Government has approved a RM120mil allocation for the development of the Indian community for four years following a request by the MIC.

MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said the RM30mil allocation each year would be used to help single mothers become self sufficient as well as for youth programmes and other programmes to help the needy.

"Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi gave the approval recently," he told reporters Saturday after the end of the one-day MIC general assembly here.

He said that the allocation was part of the RM300mil sought from the Government in May to help poor Malaysian Indians.

The assembly went smoothly without any untoward incidents as Samy Vellu was in his element, ticking off delegates as well as cracking jokes. He also urged the branch chairmen to read the various booklets and use them as "ammunition" to answer the party's critics.

Several delegates touched on education, economy, employment and party unity while some spoke on the need for the president to continue to lead the party.

Former MIC deputy president Datuk S. Subramaniam, who also spoke, called on members to forget their differences and work together towards strengthening the party.

"I am saddened with the party's loss in the elections. We have to find the weaknesses and rectify them," he said, adding that the MIC was a strong party.

Subramaniam said the party did not take heed of the activities of the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) as they were deemed to be fighting for the rights of the Hindu religion.

"But they (Hindraf) were hijacked by the Opposition and they fell for it, requesting the people vote for the Opposition. This was a big disappointment to us," he said, adding that the challenge is to bring them to the MIC fold.

He also praised Samy Vellu for not giving up but continuing to work for the betterment of the Indian community.

The assembly passed five resolutions. One of the resolutions expressed support for Abdullah’s leadership as PM.

The MIC also urged the Federal Government to establish representative committees at the state and district levels to serve the people in the five Opposition-held states.

This was necessary, as MIC has no representation at the state and local governments in Selangor, Perak, Kedah, Penang and Kelantan.

In another resolution, MIC urged the Government to monitor the delivery and implementation mechanisms in order to achieve the targets within the specified time frame and to allocate sufficient funds and personnel.

The party also called on the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry to set up enforcement squads to monitor the prices in rural areas and to prosecute retailers and shopkeepers found to have raised prices without approval.

Well, what he uttered is SURELY RIGHT. But what can be MORE RIGHT will be HIM, MR. SAMY taking half of the blame as well, then it will be ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. So for him blaming TDM is like pot calling the kettle black. How silly can Mr. Samy really be where the whole wide world and the world wide web knows he just cannot deliver.

Being a Minister for over 20 years and President of the only party that represents the Indian community in the Barisan Nasional yet do so little for the them. As Minister and President he has all the connection in the hierarchy of Malaysia power base to lobby and answer the call of duty to protect his community BUT what he do, FAILED THEM MISERABLY. What did the Indian community do to deserve all this unfair treatment?

And so the pointing of fingers begin between two great friends now seen as foes.

KUALA LUMPUR: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad did very little for the Indian community when he was prime minister, MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said yesterday.

Samy Vellu said the Indians had to struggle on their own for more than 140 years and achieved success only through sheer hard work .

"Despite the MIC appealing again and again for help, he refused to budge," Samy Vellu said in response to Dr Mahathir's remarks during a talk in Teluk Intan on Saturday.

The former prime minister had said the Malays were willing to admit other races into the country and endowed them with rights.

He had also demolished the notion of a Bangsa Malaysia and said Malaysians must accept the fact that they were just too different to be known as one race.

Dr Mahathir's remarks have drawn flak from non-Malay groups, who felt that national unity was crucial for the country to meet its future challenges.

Samy Vellu said Dr Mahathir should not be taking a racist approach at a time when Malaysians were working hard towards unity. - NST

Nalla speaks to PM...ONLY 5 MINUTES

So Datuk Nalla is turning to Pak Lah for support rather than supporting Pak Lah. But what is more interesting is the statement he made about Datuk Seri Samy, the no more influence person who is the President of a no more influence party. Put it this way, Datuk Nalla will be irrelavant soon as BN will soon be irrelevant.

He describe MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu as a good friend, and said:

“He taught me a lot of things when I was young. He can also be my guru.”

If that is the case why don't just close shop MUIP and join MIC. So in my opinion is another politicking in politicians.

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s estranged friend and former tennis partner Datuk K.S. Nallakaruppan met with Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi Wednesday to pledge his full support to the Prime Minister.

The meeting, however, lasted only for five minutes, as the Prime Minister was busy.

“He said he would fix another appointment,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby.

Nallakaruppan denied that Abdullah was a weak leader, and on his way out.

“To me, he is a good leader. That’s why I have come to support him. He’s my Prime Minister and I have to trust him and I have to love him,” he added.

Nallakaruppan, who was formerly with PKR, said he did not believe Anwar’s claims that he had enough Barisan Nasional MPs who wanted to crossover to topple the Barisan Federal government.

“All the time he bluffs me, so I take this as one of his lies,” said the 61-year-old businessman.

“Morning, his face is different, afternoon his face is again different and night it is different too.

"I don’t believe him and I don’t trust him.”

Nallakaruppan said he had tolerated Anwar, whom he described as someone “who did not know how to value friendship,” for more than 30 years.

“Now I want to keep my distance,” he added.

To a question he said, Anwar could be the Prime Minister in waiting for as long as he liked.

“He can wait. I thought he will change, but he has not,” he added.

Nallakaruppan quit PKR last May after a rift with Anwar over not being chosen as the candidate for the Ijok by-election.

Barisan Nasional won the by-election.

He then went on to set up his own party, Malaysian Indian United Party (MUIP).

Nallakaruppan, who is the president, said he had applied for MUIP to join Barisan.

He believed that MIUP would get better support under Barisan.

What's Next of Hindraf...

Now Sami Value have asked for an unconditional release of Hindraf 5. He now sings the tune of ordinary Malaysian. Unfortunately for him, his political days are numbered and I guess it is still not too late for him to apologise to the Indian Community for failing to safeguard the interest of the Community as a whole. AND I believe the Community would want Mr. Vellu to apologise and made amends to the Community. It's never too LATE.

KUALA LUMPUR: MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu has urged the government to release the five Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) leaders who are being detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA).

He said two of the leaders -- R. Kenghadaran, 40, who is very sick and M. Manoharan, 46, who had won the Kota Alam Shah state seat in Selangor on a DAP ticket on March 8 -- should be freed sooner.

He said another two, V. Ganabatirau, 34, and K. Vasantha Kumar, 34, had not been very much involved in the rally organised by Hindraf in Kuala Lumpur on Nov 25 last year.

The fifth leader being detained under the ISA is P. Uthayakumar.

Speaking to reporters after opening a workshop on "Rebranding the MIC" here Sunday, Samy Vellu said the wives of Kenghadaran and Manoharan had approached him for his assistance.

"I have decided to raise it with the government. I will raise it (the issue of their release) with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi after he returns from Sabah.

"I will also meet Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar and Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan. I have already made some moves on this earlier but I did not tell anyone. I will now make a firm move to see what can be done by the government with regard to their plight," Samy Vellu claimed.

He said Ganabatirau, and Vasantha Kumar were "not very much involved (in the rally), so the government has to make a decision."

Samy Vellu claimed that this was not a publicity stunt or a move to win back Indian support for the party.

"This is done in fairness, sympathy and, also, we feel that we as Indians have to do something about it. It is not a publicity stunt," he said.

Samy Vellu said that he was harshly criticised by certain people when he spoke to Abdullah and the Attorney General about reducing the attempted murder charges against the 31 people detained during the Hindraf rally, but he had continued to assist them.

Why is this HAPPENING AGAIN?

We finished our pre ceramah at about 11.30pm at the DAP's Dewan Rakyat. Goh Leong San (DAP Chairman), Koh Sze Choon (former candidate of Klebang and YBB - Yang Bakal Berhormat) and I were at the lounge of DAP office relaxing and joking away.

Suddenly, we were interrupted by Gandhi (Taman Merdeka Branch member) together with about 4 Indian friends who complained to us that their tents were burned down by some jokers at about that time. The place was located in Cheng, Melaka some 15km away from DAP office in Taman Pandan. The tents were erected on the side of the road for preparation of the annual Hindu festival. It will be used to shade devotees and at the same time for food preparation.

Personally I was utterly shock by such irresponsible act of uncivilised group of people. Such act should not be condoned as heroic. I must say that the police must act fast before it turn to be unruly as Malaysia cannot afford to have a racial clash.

I NOW call upon the police to act swiftly and investigate this notorious act of contempt. It must be done without any fear and favour by the police and also to make the necessary arrest of those that are involved with such despicable act of terror.

Such act is nothing short of a work of terror intending to incite hatred amongst Malaysian.

Enough is enough, let us cry for CHANGE.

Embarrassment to Samy

I saw this in RPK's blog. Having the opportunity to read it, I can't stop laughing. It takes the Naib Presiden to ampu the boss and correct his mistakes after being bombarded by Puteri Chaiman of UMNO. It takes a Putri to humiliate and embarrass the President of MIC, so called third largest party within the Barisan Nasional. Mind you, she is not even a Deputy Minister. What a shame and an embarrassment to MIC.

Secondly, the statement by Veera confuse me even more. He says, "...kerana ingin memajukan kaum India seiring kaum lain di negara ini". Meaning, Hindraf is right after all. The Indian community has been greatly marginalised. As I recalled there were thousands that march into the street. Nobody or rather no people in their right frame of mind would simply demonstrate and assemble shouting anti government slogans. As such for thousands of Indians marched out that day shows a vote of dissent not only to the MIC President and MIC but also to the Barisan government.

Samy has been MP for Sungai Siput for 8 terms. I think the people of Sungai Siput should just throw him aside. Enough is enough.

...Conceding that Hindraf was fighting a "losing battle", Waytha Moorthy said the struggle of the organisation was likely to die soon.

"We are fighting a losing battle, we know. We tried our level best but if we don't succeed we have to call it a day, isn't it ?" he told the newspaper."
