Enough said, Ganesan is and never be Obama. If he wants to be Obama, he should just quit Barisan Nasional and believe that all men are created equal under the law. With Barisan Nasional-UMNO supremacy ideology, is an affront to the good name of Obama.

SUNGAI PETANI, April 3 - He runs, tap rubber and wants to be the Malaysian‘Obama’.

Datuk S. Ganesan is doing all this and others to get votes and win the Bukit Selambau state seat for Barisan Nasional on April 7.

The former Lunas assemblyman is also projecting an ‘everyman’ image to overcome the perception that he is difficult to engage, if not downright rude at times.

Barisan Nasional is also concerned after Datuk Wan Ahmad Farid Salleh was labelled a snob in the Kuala Terengganu by-election on Jan 17, which it lost.

Senior MIC officials in Kedah also told The Malaysian Insider that Ganesan has not been known to be popular with the locals prior to the campaign.

“He is aloof and some would say conceited because he is not shy to talk up his UK education,” said one leader.

But Ganesan has made a huge effort to address this perception across the first half of the campaign period so far by participating in activities common to the Bukit Selambau native.

Ganesan kicked off his campaign by going for a 6km jog around his neighbourhood and passing leaflets to passersby. “To be more energetic and enhance performance,” was his message, he told reporters after his 7am run.

Ganesan related to The Malaysian Insider that he is a member of a local Hash House Harriers chapter, a social club for recreational runners.

Not only that, he is an avid sportsman, naming badminton and football - lifting his trouser leg to show his injuries on his shin as proof — as his sports of choice.

“When you engage in the same activities as the rakyat, then you will know what is required and how to accommodate their needs. For example, others may not understand why you need such a nice field just to play football but to the players, it is a big difference,” he said just after cleaning out a drain in Kg Sebelas, Sungai Lalang.

Ganesan has also showed off his skills at tapping rubber. His own parents were rubber tappers and this move was designed to give locals some food for thought in terms of his grasp of local issues.

His rather creative campaign also includes a some interesting, if not completely credible soundbites.

He has vowed to cover at least 10km a day on foot. That has led to his claim that as of yesterday, he reached over 55 per cent of voters.He also wants to be the “Obama of Malaysia,” becoming the latest politician to ride on newly elected US president Barack Obama’s global appeal.

Whether or not these unorthodox strategies are his ideas or those of his handlers, he is certainly running an eye-catching campaign.

It positions himself as a man willing to pursue local issues. This will be crucial in grabbing the rural vote as the consensus is that the urban voters are lodged firmly with Pakatan Rakyat.

Pointing Fingers.... Samy Oh Samy

Well, what he uttered is SURELY RIGHT. But what can be MORE RIGHT will be HIM, MR. SAMY taking half of the blame as well, then it will be ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. So for him blaming TDM is like pot calling the kettle black. How silly can Mr. Samy really be where the whole wide world and the world wide web knows he just cannot deliver.

Being a Minister for over 20 years and President of the only party that represents the Indian community in the Barisan Nasional yet do so little for the them. As Minister and President he has all the connection in the hierarchy of Malaysia power base to lobby and answer the call of duty to protect his community BUT what he do, FAILED THEM MISERABLY. What did the Indian community do to deserve all this unfair treatment?

And so the pointing of fingers begin between two great friends now seen as foes.

KUALA LUMPUR: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad did very little for the Indian community when he was prime minister, MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said yesterday.

Samy Vellu said the Indians had to struggle on their own for more than 140 years and achieved success only through sheer hard work .

"Despite the MIC appealing again and again for help, he refused to budge," Samy Vellu said in response to Dr Mahathir's remarks during a talk in Teluk Intan on Saturday.

The former prime minister had said the Malays were willing to admit other races into the country and endowed them with rights.

He had also demolished the notion of a Bangsa Malaysia and said Malaysians must accept the fact that they were just too different to be known as one race.

Dr Mahathir's remarks have drawn flak from non-Malay groups, who felt that national unity was crucial for the country to meet its future challenges.

Samy masih belum faham?

Nampaknya MIC bos masih belum faham kehendak rakyat. He should just resign and be an advisor to MIC. To be defeated in his forever place of Sungai Siput and almost all of his top guns defeated including his Deputy and Secretary General is nothing but humiliation. The Indian voters have already given their mandate to the DAP and PKR Indian representatives in state assembly and Parliament. I believe in this recent election, we actually see more Indian representatives in the august house protecting not just the Indians but all Malaysians as a whole.

Saya percaya komuniti kaum India tidak akan atau patut risau kerana Pakatan Rakyat akan terus berjuang demi kemajuan rakyat dan kaum India. Di Melaka, walaupun kesemua ahli pembangkang dewan undangan negeri Melaka adalah terdiri dari parti DAP dan berbangsa cina, namun saya percaya, Pakatan Rakyat akan berterus berjuang untuk nasib kaum India dan juga Melayu kerana parti DAP dan Pakatan Rakyat tidak mengenali bangsa, agama dan fahaman politik.

The MIC head, should just follow the wishes of the people to just UNDUR from the position. As far as I am concern, there are others who can lead the party better and for the betterment of the Indian communities.

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu will defend his presidency for the “last term” in the MIC party polls scheduled for March next year.

“I will retire in 2012 (after the end of the three-year presidency). I have already said it before,” the 72-year-old told reporters after presenting UPSR revision books to headmasters and students of Tamil schools here yesterday.

He said he would also stick to his decision not to contest for any parliamentary seat in the next general election.

(In March, Samy Vellu said that the general election would be his last, and that he would concentrate on party work and return to his architectural work when he retires).

Samy Vellu said that since he was not a minister, he had all the time to do party work.

To a question, he said he would be happy if anyone contested for the top post.

“It will also give me a chance to see my strength in the party,” he said.

Samy Vellu had led the party since taking over the presidency in 1979 following the death of Tan Sri V. Manickavasagam.

He said the state MIC leadership would be revamped after their annual general meetings in May and June.

Samy Vellu said there was a need to overhaul the party leadership and machinery within the next two years and also recruit 200,000 young members.

On a separate issue, he said he would seek a meeting with Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ismail to discuss the request for a 1.9ha piece of land for the construction of the SRJK Tamil Seaport in Selangor.

“We have already drawn up the plans and a 0.46ha site has been allocated but supporters want a bigger site. Now it is up to the state government to give what their supporters are asking,” he said.

On the statement by Selangor state executive councillor Dr Xavier Jeyakumar that he would resolve the problems of the temples in the state, Samy Vellu said: “It would be better if they can allocate land for the over 2,000 temples in the state.”

Embarrassment to Samy

I saw this in RPK's blog. Having the opportunity to read it, I can't stop laughing. It takes the Naib Presiden to ampu the boss and correct his mistakes after being bombarded by Puteri Chaiman of UMNO. It takes a Putri to humiliate and embarrass the President of MIC, so called third largest party within the Barisan Nasional. Mind you, she is not even a Deputy Minister. What a shame and an embarrassment to MIC.

Secondly, the statement by Veera confuse me even more. He says, "...kerana ingin memajukan kaum India seiring kaum lain di negara ini". Meaning, Hindraf is right after all. The Indian community has been greatly marginalised. As I recalled there were thousands that march into the street. Nobody or rather no people in their right frame of mind would simply demonstrate and assemble shouting anti government slogans. As such for thousands of Indians marched out that day shows a vote of dissent not only to the MIC President and MIC but also to the Barisan government.

Samy has been MP for Sungai Siput for 8 terms. I think the people of Sungai Siput should just throw him aside. Enough is enough.

Send you to the Headmaster

This is what happen when a backbencher breaks rank in Parliament, he will be a dead duck. S.K. Devamany, MP for Cameron Highlands had allegedly uttered controversial statements in Parliament house demanding the government to look into the welfare of the Indian community.

So is this democracy in BN? When you have a political master such as U know Who, you got to kow tow to them. That is what happen to the other political parties in BN.

So what will happen to our MP of CH? Hmmmm my guess is, he will be given a very very very stern warning from the Headmaster with a rotan. Then he would probably asked to give a press statement, denouncing what he said in Parliament and apologise to his U Know Who and say that the "kera jaan amat prihatin kepada semua rakyat tak kira bangsa dan agama....."

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 27 (Bernama) -- Member of Parliament for Cameron Highlands S.K. Devamany, who is alleged to have made a controversial statement in Parliament yesterday, is scheduled to meet Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on Thursday regarding the matter.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz said he had already spoken to Najib regarding the issue and that Thursday had been set for Devamany to meet the Deputy Prime Minister, who is also the Barisan Nasional (BN) Chief Whip.

"I have seen the report (from the Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club (BNBBC) regarding the issue). I also saw the Hansard and in my opinion there has been a break in ranks," he told reporters at Parliament's lobby Tuesday.

When asked about the type of action that could be taken against Devamany, Mohamed Nazri said that Najib would decide on it.

The issue emerged during the Dewan Rakyat's morning session yesterday when Devamany allegedly questioned the government's policies on Indians in the country.

He is alleged to have said that the figure of 50,000 people attending the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) demonstration in the city on Sunday showed the dissatisfaction of the Indian community to be at a serious level.

Commenting further on Devamany's action, Mohamed Nazri said: "Stand up for the more than 100,000 Indians who did not participate (in the Hindraf demonstration)...stand up for them. I want the Indian leaders to stand up for the majority of Indians who stayed behind and are supportive of the government. It is more important."

On the demonstration, Mohamed Nazri said the demonstrators wanted to see the nation suffer by conducting such an event.

"Their intention is to scare away investors," he said.

Meanwhile, MIC President Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu regarded Devamany to have been 'absent-minded' when mentioning 50,000 as the figure for the number of people who attended the illegal demonstration.

"According to the police, it was only about 4,600...if 50,000 means it (the crowd) would have gone right up to the edge of Kuala Lumpur," he said.

Samy Vellu also said that Devamany did not mean any policy failure, instead he just mentioned that the government was not doing enough for the Indian community.

"Policy failure is different from not doing enough.. We are all fighting... Umno is fighting saying not enough is being done (for the Malays)... The MCA is saying the same thing and so too the MIC. Everybody feels the same," he said.

On Nazri comments yesterday that Devamany should quit the MIC, Samy Vellu said: "In parliament, we can say so many things.. Nazri is a good person. Sometimes, he might say something but he may not mean it."
