More than JUST A BETRAYAL

Betrayal? Exactly my feeling with the mixture of Disappointment, Outrageous, felt Offended, Aghast, Furious, Irate, Shameful, Embarrassed, Annoyed etc etc etc. Can we trust our police? More so all within the compound of the police department.

THIS is how defeat is snatched from the jaws of victory. What was hailed four months ago as a record-breaking success in the war on drugs -- a seizure of nearly RM50 million worth of assorted narcotics, resulting in the arrest of a dozen felons and the disruption of an international syndicate -- turns instead into another shameful embarrassment for the police. The apparent disappearance of RM1 million worth of syabu from a strongroom in the Johor state police headquarters, with evidence indicating an "inside job", sits discomfitingly among similar thefts in recent years. In each case, mid-level officers have been punished for dereliction of responsibility by being reassigned to other duties.

To an extent, the police force is granted the right to keep its own house in order -- an article of faith born on pragmatism, considering the difficulties inherent in the police being called on publicly to investigate themselves. The continuing impulse towards establishing a commission to oversee the police, however, is only accelerated by incidents such as these. This lends urgency not only to the need to solve this crime, but to ensuring there is no hint that the police would prefer to cover it up rather than get to the bottom of it.

One wonders, though, how much the general public loss of faith in the country's security forces has conduced to the sort of fatal cynicism that would have enforcers prefer to be hanged as sheep than lambs. With millions of ringgit in seized assets languishing in their strongrooms, what temptations must befall the guards? As we are at present witnessing with the Immigration Department, where the arrest of senior officers on suspicion of complicity in illegal activities seems hardly to have cowed junior ranks into sticking to the straight path, the rot may have so permeated such agencies that it hardly matters whether or not the fish rots from the head, once the entire entity is riddled with a loss of faith.

Hence, while the Anti-Corruption Agency pounds its beat with renewed resolve, picking up sundry civil servants and government contractors to examine their palms for grease, and while public opinion continues to demand that the guilty be ferreted out and punished to the fullest extent of the law, it is truly dispiriting when the enforcers themselves continue to betray what frail shreds are left of the public trust. Without that trust, it should go without saying, they do not serve the nation's security but undermine it.

DSAI's Press Statement

The below is DSAI press statement after his release:

On Saturday (July 12), police came to my house to serve a Section 111 Criminal Procedure Code notice, harassing my family and demanding my presence at the IPK Kuala Lumpur at 2pm, Monday (July 14).

On the next day, Sunday (July 13), police also served an ex-parte court order, prohibiting me from physically being within 5km from Parliament on Monday (July 14).

My house and the IPK KL are within 5km radius from the Parliament building. The court order effectively put me under house arrest on Monday and at the same time prevented me from going to the IPK.

On Monday, the presence of police officers outside the compound of my house strengthened our suspicions that they would be prepared to arrest me as soon as I left the compound of my residence, on the pretext of me violating the court order.

The issue here is which order should I comply with, the ex-parte court order or the Section 111 notice from the police.

On the same day, police through I.O. DSP Jude Pereira, wrote and faxed me at about 1.06pm, informing that I was to be present at the IPK KL on Wednesday (July 16) at 2pm.

I conveyed my agreement and it was communicated to the police through my solicitor Messrs S.N.Nair & Partners via telephone and letter on the same day.

On Wednesday, I was at the ACA head office to record my statement pursuant to the police report lodged by me at IPK Shah Alam on July 1.

We cut short our statement at the ACA’s office to ensure we will be able to attend our appointment with the police at 2pm.

At 12.45pm, DSP Jude called Nair to confirm our attendance and Nair confirmed that we will be there.

We were about to have a quick lunch at my house before proceeding to the IPK . Five minutes later, we were ambushed by a team of masked and heavily armed policemen near my house.

I was arrested and brought to the IPK. I cooperated fully with the police by giving my cautioned statement from 2.30pm to 7.30pm. At this particular point, the IO and the other officers handling the case were doing their job professionally.

I was then given assurance by ACP Ramli and later SAC II Khor (through my lawyers) that I would be released on police bail on the same day.

However, upon my return from HKL, DSP Jude informed me and my lawyers that I will be detained and put in the lock-up overnight for the purpose of recording a further statement in the morning.

I and my lawyers protested, but the police were adamant despite them knowing about my physical condition.

This morning (Thursday), a short statement was recorded for 30 minutes and I was released on police bail.

I now wish to deal with the statement of CID director Datuk Mohd Bakri Zinin as appeared in Utusan Malaysia.

(Bakri was quoted as saying the police had to intercept Anwar and arrest him in Bukit Segambut because he changed the direction of his vehicle in the last minutes before the 2pm deadline)

This is a blatant lie from the CID director.

I have given assurances and had just informed the I.O 5 minutes before the disgraceful ambush by the police through my lawyer who was with me in the same car.

In addition, the Deputy Home minister (Datuk) Wan Farid said, as reported in STAR online that I ’went voluntarily to the police car without any incident.’ This again, is a blatant lie by the Government.

I take to task the IGP for this abuse of power against me though the events I’ve narrated above.

It appears that the nature of my unwarranted arrest, my overnight incarceration, were an act of personal vengeance against me in retaliation yo the reports I lodged earlier against him, which are now being investigated by ACA.

Sodomy the 'In Thing" or words to that nature....

First you have this :

"A police report has been lodged against PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim for allegedly sodomosing one of his aides - the second time that such an accusation had been made in over 10 years.

The report was lodged by the 23-year-old victim at the Jalan Travers police station at 6pm.

KL police chief DCP Muhammad Sabtu Osman has confirmed that the report had been made.

It is learnt that Anwar met with a number of party leaders at an emergency meeting late tonight.

At 11.15pm, PKR sent out an SMS message stating that the police had detained Anwar’s special aide Saiful Bahari this afternoon and forced him to lodge a police report about being sodomised by his boss.

It added that the police are expected to arrest Anwar soon."

Then you have this :
And now this :

KUALA TERENGGANU: Two police lance corporals have lodged reports alleging that their chief, an OCPD of a rural district in Terengganu, attempted to sodomise them, on two separate occasions.

In the first report made on Thursday, the 22-year-old cop claimed that he was sleeping at the OCPD’s house in mid-May when someone grabbed him from the back.

In his report, the cop alleged that the OCPD embraced and kissed him at about 3am.

The lance corporal also alleged that the senior officer dragged his boxer shorts down and attempted to sodomise him.

The subordinate claimed that he fled and hid in one of the rooms before deciding to lodge the police report.

The second report against the OCPD was made at 5.15pm on the same day by another 21-year-old cop who claimed that his chief had ordered him to accompany the OCPD to a bedroom on the second floor of a rest house here, early in March.

The policeman claimed the OCPD also tried to molest and sodomise him.

Both the reports were lodged at the Kelantan police headquarters in Kota Baru.

Senior police officials confirmed that the reports were lodged, adding that the two lance corporals had been transferred out of the district to facilitate investigations.

Ex Minister investigated?

It was reported in the Sun newspaper that a police report was lodge by a hotel restaurant waitress accusing the Ex Minister of molesting her at her workplace. It was also reported that he is a Datuk Seri in his 50s'.

Now what is more interesting in the report is that, the news reported that he was the one at about two years ago, whilst still a Cabinet Minister, made disparaging remarks on the ethnicity of a Malaysian female student during his visit to a university in the United States. He later apologised to the student after word of the incident was spread through emails (power of the internet)

Now who can that be? There are currently eight ex Cabinet Minister that has a Datuk Seri, oops of course there is still an ex ex Cabinet Minister, Datuk Seri Chua Soi Lek. But nevertheless I believe it is not him as on the time of reporting he is not in OVERSEAS. So who?

1) Ong Kah Ting
2) Azmi Khalid
3) Tengku Adnan
4) Radzi Sheikh Ahmad
5) Jamaluddin Jarjis
6) Samy Velu
7) Lim Keng Yaik
and not forgetting Rafidah Aziz

I am not guessing.

Interpol?

And now it's Interpol.....

I am wondering what's next??

Interpol to help find Sharlinie

PETALING JAYA: Police have sought help from Interpol, the International Criminal Police Organisation, to trace five-year-old Sharlinie Mohd Nashar who went missing on Jan 9, although they believe that the girl is still in the country.

Selangor CID chief Senior Asst Comm II Mazlan Mansor said police were also working very closely with their counterparts in neighbouring countries especially those bordering Malaysia. They have been asked to be on the lookout for Sharlinie and the suspect.

"So far we have not received any positive feedback from them but we will continue with the search and use all avenues to look for the girl and the suspect,'' he said on Thursday after the handing over of a mobile police van by Syarikat Perniagaan Shahira Sdn Bhd to the police at the Seri Selangor Golf Club in Kota Damansara.

The RM60,000 van which would be used by the Kota Damasara and Sungai Buloh police was received on behalf of the Royal Malaysia Police by Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Ismail Omar.

SAC Mazlan said police and the girl's father were still receiving many calls and SMSes from the public on her whereabouts.

"We are still following up on every tip-off received and have sent out intelligence teams to investigate the information and carry out continuous surveillance in the areas where the girl had been reportedly sighted,'' he said.

However, SAC Mazlan warned pranksters not to call or send false messages on the whereabouts of the girl to the numbers provided on the posters and the recently set up 1-800-88-5464 toll-free number.

"People should only give genuine information and not take advantage of other people's grief.

"We won't hesitate to take severe action against those who give false information as they are interfering with police investigations,'' he added.

Meanwhile, Ismail said a house-to-house search for Sharlinie had been carried out at all abandoned houses and buildings in the Klang Valley.

"So far there is no progress on her whereabouts but we will continue to look for her,'' he added.

Say No To Crime

"Kami mesti meletak CCTV di merata-rata tempat"

So said Orang Kuat Selangor i.e the MB of Selangor.

"Some of the CCTV is not functioning well"

So said Ong Kah Ting, Minister of Local Government and Housing....

So is that good enough? Both Orang Kuats have spoken about CCTV. So the government will be putting more CCTVs in starting with Johor. Purported to be a crime prone area as such it is a priority. But the issue now is would the CCTV be functioning or would it be a waste of public fund.

We were informed that the government spends about RM10-20 billion to reduce crime but looking at the percentage of crime rate arising, I think the whole project is now a waste. Guan Eng reported "Putting 100,000 policemen on the streets would only cost us an extra RM10 billion yearly which is nothing compared to the RM20 billion losses from crime in 2007".

He further said, "30% rise in rapes to 3,177 cases and 12% rise in molest to 2,320 cases in 2007... means 8.7 rapes and 5.4 women molested daily last year.

He went on to say "these are only reported figures and the actual rapes and molest cases could be much more as it is generally known that for every report lodged there are as high as 5 unreported cases."

This is frightening. Let us say no to crime.

Our police force's priority should be on curbing crimes instead of stationing their officers in Opposition or NGOs ceramah...

What Hell is this PLACE

I read the press statement of DAP Secretary General Lim Guan Eng (SG) in the DAP website just now and I must say I am disgusted and sad with the state of crime in our country. In the morning I blog about Sharlini. I felt sad when I read the newspaper that such crime is again committed even after dear Nurin. I don't understand what is our police doing. The police will go all out to curb so called 'illegal assembly' for expressing their dissatisfaction on the street on things that are close to their hearts such as BERSIH (for clean and fair election) and Hindraf (Indian marginalisation).

What about the rape and murder of dear Nurin and the disappearance of Adik Sharlini. She was feared to be abducted. I am praying that she will be alive and well. Malaysia will cry if anything happen to her.

Back to SG's press statement. I am totally unhappy of the rise in crime. This is what he statically put in the press statement:-

• Rape - 3,177 cases (+ 29.5%)
• Outraging modesty - 2,320 (+ 12.4%)
• Night-time home break-in - 24,440 (+ 21.7%)
• Day break-in - 9,159 (+4.2%)
• Motorcycle theft - 67,854 (+ 3.2%)
• Car theft - 12,427 (+ 11.4%)
• Snatch theft - 11,127 (+0.5)

There seems to be a rise of all crimes listed above. Rape cases are rising to a plus 29.5%. That is a worrisome figure. What are our police doing? Sleeping? What happen to the security in our country. I am now worried (for nothing) the danger surrounding my wife, sisters, and women friends. I think our government is not serious about combating and reducing crime. What an embarrassment...

Is it getting worst?

I seriously don't know what is the problem with people these days. A month ago we had little Sherway Ong murdered. She was about 4. Then yesterday Malaysians were shocked again with the abuse and murder of another very young child of only 17 months, Chin Shyan Ping. The post-mortem of suspected abuse victim showed that she died of head injuries sustained from a blunt object. Meaning she was beaten. She died as a result of being abused. What a parent? Now they cry for the death of their loved ones. How unfortunate. But whose fault are these?

It's so easy being a parent. Simply, you had sex with your lover in experimenting what adulthood is and there you go, a new life emerge. Immediately after that young couples in their teens get married and experience life as an adult even though they are still children. Where is the sense of responsibility? Sometimes we have more children by accident but without giving them the proper education and a proper place to live, as parents we became irresponsible. Our greatest responsibility is to see our children be successful. If the child fails to be what he suppose to be, that is the failure of the parent. The parent is to be blamed at the outset.

In the Christian world, my belief, sex is wonderful an beautiful consummate between man and wife. A holy matrimony. Where God created man and woman that they may be fruitful and multiply. That was a command by God to Adam and Eve. It creates responsibility and accountability between one another and the offspring. We are commanded to live and to see our generation and the generation to come. As parents we owe a duty to our children that they have good home to live, good education, good meal, good learning experience and the list goes on. Family is stress free and it all surrounded by love and understanding between children and parent.

Johor overall crime rate down, but rape cases up

KULAI: The crime rate in Johor has dipped by as many as 1,162 cases in the first six months, but the number of rape cases has increased instead.

State CID Chief Senior Asst Comm II Roslan Ahmad said the number of rape cases increased some 8% in the first six months of this year.

He noted that 90% of the cases involved underage girls having consensual sex with their partners.

"Violent rapes are not common in the state but most rapes are results of social ills," he said.

SAC II Roslan told a press conference here that parents should monitor their children closely to prevent social ills such as underaged sex from increasing.

Failure and more Failures, from Parliament

First, LEAK, then SEXIST remarks, then OTAK UDANG and BODOH and now Malaysia hears Parliamentarian rejecting an urgent motion by Opposition Leader, Mr. Lim Kit Siang for Parliament to debate a serious and urgent issue that doesn't concern political affiliation or touching racial or religious boundaries but mainly to discuss an issue that is in our hearts SAFETY AND SECURITY. It is a heart cry from the people not only in Johor but Malaysia as a whole that issues such as this are rejected. The issues of crime is serious and has to be tackled before it gets out of hand.

So reading it from Uncle Kit's blog on Parliament's failure to discuss rationally is simply outrageous. There is nothing politically about it. As such everybody, should vote for it and debate issues of national importance. Where are the parliamentarians representing Johor? Where are their voices, when the Rakyat need them. Are they suppose to be that Datuk Seri, who would just simply sweep under the carpet by saying PLEASE GO TO THE PROPER CHANNEL? I wonder what does he mean to the "proper channel"? Isn't it not that Parliament is the proper channel and forum to discuss and debate issues that touches the heart of the people and are of national importance.

It is disheartening to see my wakil rakyat not wanting to have anything to do with it. Why is it voting a proposal by the Opposition seems to be an alien thing to do? Everybody must cry out in disgust to reject CRIMES as acts such as these are not to be tolerated by all of us. Something serious has to be done. If Parliamentarian refuse to act for the rakyat, then who will? Should then the Rakyat takes to the street to demonstrate peacefully?

Is beefing up police presence by having 400 police personnel or more and temporary police stations in shop lots will eradicate and reduce crime and because of that Parliament should not debate it? NONSENSE. I'm sad that our representatives are not willing to do good and what is just to see that Malaysia be a better place to live in. What the people of JB and Malaysia want are no more just verbal assurances from the Cabinet or from the MCA but immediate steps and actions so that our loved ones could, I quote from Uncle Kit's blog, "immediately feel safe in the streets, public places and the privacy of their homes – today and tomorrow and not in the future..."

Dear God open the eyes of the people in high places, in our Parliament, so that they will see the truth. Set them free O God, from being blinded by their political masters so that conscience will prevail in their hearts. AMEN

What is Malaysia becoming to?

Something is seriously wrong with Malaysia. Why is this happening? Rape and other serious crimes are on the rise. Within 6 hours two incident of rape took place in JB where the victims are teenagers. My heart cries with the victims and their family. One was gang raped by form 'animals' and the other by a bogus policeman. This is making Malaysian fuming mad. Looking at it, Malaysia is no more a safe place for people to live. Something has to be done. Things like this cannot be swept under the carpet and telling the whole world that we are ok. The government, police and the public must work together to fight crime. Parents must check on the whereabout of their children and be more responsible to see to the safety of their children.

I lived in a Taman where all races live in harmony. But there is a difference between the Chinese and the Malay families. The Chinese for example will make sure that everybody is in the house by 7.30pm whereas the Malay children in my Taman would be playing sometimes right to 11.00pm. If they are not in the field playing football, they would be in the drain playing hide and sick or seeing these young vulnerable running from house to house as though as they are living in their kampongs regardless of their safety. I was wondering where are their parents. Why aren't the parents be more responsible over the children. Whilst the Chinese parents will be screaming to their children "finish your homework or not".

The newspaper reported about the girl that quarreled with her boyfriend and went to the lake to calm her feelings were there probably at very late evening or at wee hours at night, as the news reported also that another rape took place at about 6.30am. A 6 hours apart that means why and how on earth a teenager girl crying there. Whereas she should be at home STUDYING. Where is her parents? What happen to responsibility? The parents of the girl are to be blamed for such attitude. Something is seriously wrong.

What is Chua Soi Lek taking about?

How could he distant himself and call the peaceful demonstration as IRRESPONSIBLE? Hello, these are civic minded people who are just afraid of the high rise in crime. We are not talking about just the Chinese community but every walk of life of all Malaysian people. I think they (the demonstrators) are a responsible lot of people who believes that they are stakeholders of this land. So what that Datuk Seri just said is more IRRESPONSIBLE than any Malaysians. Please there is nothing to do with racial BUT Malaysians wants security and demanding the Menteri Besar to act for and on the behalf of the people.

©The Star (Used by permission)

JOHOR BARU: MCA has distanced itself from the recent demonstration held outside the Mentri Besar’s official residence and said that it was organised by “irresponsible” parties.

Johor MCA chief Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek, who categorically denied the party’s involvement in the demonstration, accused those responsible of “playing with fire.”

“These irresponsible people have turned crime into a racial issue and if they are not careful, it can get out of control,” he said, adding that the entire Chinese community should not be blamed for the actions of a few irresponsible ones.

He was speaking to reporters after officiating at the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Hospital Permai site in Johor Baru.

Dr Chua, who is also party vice-president, said an SMS meant to incite the public was also making the rounds and that he would appeal to the police to investigate where it originated.

On Sunday, police stopped an anti-crime demonstration outside the Mentri Besar’s official residence here and picked up two protesters who resisted a police order to disperse.

About 100 people had gathered there at 10am to stage their protest in response to two violent rapes reported over the past week, one involving a 19-year-old girl on June 12 and the other a 35-year-old woman the next day.

Johor Baru (South) OCPD Asst Comm Shafie Ismail said the protestors, aged 24 and 27, have been remanded until today.

“We will investigate their role in the protest,” he said.

Monday, June 18, 2007

Let the Malaysian VOICE be heard

"YES TO IPCMC (Independent Police Complaint and Misconduct Commission)" It was a loud cry in Johor yesterday. This time the protest is not done or organised by political parties but by a group of five Chinese clans demanding the police to do something about it. Three rape/abduction cases in Johor Bahru within a month is not an isolated case and Malaysian in all walk of life cannot accept it as a norm in our civil society. Something has to be done. Malaysian are fed up with statistics. So what if the IGP comes out and say that crime rate is reduced yet you have brutal and 'evil' acts on the large and in the open. I must say that criminals are getting so daring these days that I even tell my family especially in the evening, forget about walking in the park. "No more walk walk" that is what I say to my son. Even pumping the petrol we have to be careful for fear that we may get abducted.

I must applaud these Chinese Clans for standing up their rights under the law to make Malaysia a better place to live in. We are stakeholders of this country as such duty bound to see that this country is free from heinous crimes like what happened last month.

Crime Going Down? The IGP must have been dreaming.

Recently the Inspector General of Police, Tan Sri Musa Hassan announced that crime rate in Johor has dropped to 8% in the first quarter of the year compare with the same period the last year. A total of 9,175 cases were reported from January to April this year - 788 cases fewer than the total number reported during the same period last year.

Unfortunately, we are hearing crimes of crimes more heinous than before. Three cases of raped/abduction and robbery hit Johor within this month. Modus operandi of the gang was striking similar. True or not, I received an sms from a friend that they are now in Malacca. And yes I am afraid that they will strike again. Last two days, there were a road block held not outside of my Taman BUT in the Taman in itself. I was troubled and surprised. Police with machine guns manning the road block. I asked one of the police and he told me that there were many cases of 'Pecah Rumah'. This is sicko. Worst still it is done in the morning, no more at night. "Malang memang tidak berbau"

I was even shocked to know that the police refuse to accept reports even though they are duty bound to do so. This happened when the 19 years old 19-year-old girl and her 22-year-old boyfriend in Johor Bahru on Monday, attempts to make report on the oncoming crime was shunted from Larkin Police Station to Tampoi Police Station and again to Johor Baru Tengah Police Station. This is so unnecessary and is definitely putting the police in a very bad light. Something has to be done or nothing will be dome at all.

The crime these days are getting more daring. The last couple of month, Malaysian also saw robbery involving ATM machines, snatch thieves are getting more bold, rape is happening everyday, babies found in rubbish bin, drugs are found everywhere, prostitutions found in hotels, criminal intimidations and the Mat Rempits are still in on the loose. I now wonder what is happening to this country. Is the police doing anything about it. Why are they not accepting reports? Who can then a complaint be referred to, if the police refuse to accept it?

So is the IGP correct to just rely on statistics. I believe there are more unreported cases of such crimes. Statistics are just Mathematics, they are not facts per se. Facts means what does the news in the papers and the TV are telling. AND it gets more. More bad news. The public's confidence in the police shattered until more and more housing developers are coming out with the 'gated community' concept that hires private security company to give and provide security services.

Malaysians are worried. Malaysian are also getting very impatient. The time has come for a more RELEVANT police force. Police that are responsible and accountable for their actions. Sound too scary to note that members of triads are having 'relationships' with OCPD and/or OCS or even CPO. This is a worrying trend. And it is a FACT.

The only consideration is to have an Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC) as suggested by the Royal Commission of Inquiry into the Police. The government must be reminded to establish a police force that is free from tainted activities. Through the IPCMC public confidence on the police will soar high as it allowed public scrutiny of the police force. IPCMC is not a place where the police gets bombarded but the purposes of it is to enhance the image of the now battered police force. Corruption in the police has become an eye sore even though they wear a batch saying "Saya Anti Rasuah".

So is CRIME going down? I doubt it.
