Use of indelible ink a ‘backward’ step?? Nonsense

I found this amusing. Anyway I comment later. Happy reading.

New Straits Times

The move to use indelible ink on the thumb of voters to safeguard against multiple or phantom voting has been described as a regressive step.

Gerakan secretary-general Datuk Seri Chia Kwang Chye said the Election Commission proposal was an outdated method and it should be dropped.

"I consider this as taking a step backward. I believe the EC should have cleaned the electoral roll by now and got rid of all phantom members.

"It comes as a surprise that they are considering introducing the use of indelible ink."

He was commenting on EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman’s statement on Friday that the commission would use indelible ink on the thumbs of those who cast their ballots at the next general election.

Abdul Rashid said this would prevent the voters from voting a second time. Chia said the EC must have confidence in doing a fair job.

"They had done a fair and efficient job in the last general election. What’s important now is that they should move forward and improve the process instead of regressing to an old system," said Chia after announcing that the Bukit Bendera Family Day would be held this Sunday.

The event is being organised by the Bukit Bendera MP and the state assemblymen for Tanjung Bunga, Kebung Bunga, Pulau Tikus and Air Putih.

My comment : At least the Election Commission is doing something to curb multiple voting and Undi Hantu. What is the problem with the Sec General of Gerakan? He must be mad to say that the conventional method is good. Is he so afraid that the BN will lose more seats because they can now can't temper the election process? There so many controversies relating to the elections in this country. Too many flaws. The registration needs to be cleansed or else you will have the repeat of IJOK buy election.
